Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Our structured DBT skills building programs focus on helping individuals learn lifelong strategies to better manage and cope with lifes stressors. DBT focuses on helping individual learn Acceptance and Change Skills, through teaching  Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance. What makes our program unique, is that the total cost of the program is for two people. both the individual struggling and a support person. Both people will learn the same set of skills and how to help not only their loved one, but themselves. This program is designed to help people learn ways to be more effective while dealing with life difficulties and minimizing secondary problems that arise when we struggle and act impulsively.

Is DBT right for me?

While DBT was originally designed for people struggling with borderline personality disorder (BPD) it has since shown to be beneficial to anyone struggling with emotional regulation issues and interpersonal difficulties, often resulting loneliness, isolation and a lack of healthy consistent relationships . In addition to BPD, Rrsearch has shown DBT skills to be useful for treating substance use disorders, PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders as well as for those struggling with self-harming and suicidal ideation.

When you have tried other forms of therapy and are still struggling with regulating emotions or having emotional outbursts, a structured DBT program may be right for you.

Cost and Expectations

Our DBT Skills program has approximately 12 sessions, that run 1.5h in length. The program includes 4 detailed workbooks (mindfulness, emotion regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness). Due to the extended length of the session and the associated workbooks, each session is $250.  We also allow for the participant to bring in a support person with them, to work through the program with them, so the people in their lives are learning the skills at the same time. There is no extra cost for brining  a support person, but we do ask it be the same person each week and that they are prepared to participate themselves.
